Prior to founding William James, Brendan headed the National Banking, Insolvency and Disputes practice at an international law firm as well as being the National Client Liaison Partner for the firm’s biggest client, CBA.
Brendan specialises in commercial litigation (particularly in relation to property, finance and insolvency) and all manner of insolvency work including advisory, restructuring and workouts. Brendan has acted extensively for 3 of the 4 major Australian Banks as well as numerous financiers and large multinational corporations.
Prior to founding William James, Michael was one of the partners in the Banking, Insolvency and Disputes team at an international law firm. Michael specialises in commercial disputes, restructuring and corporate insolvency. He has acted for many of Australia’s largest banks, financiers and corporates in that space. Michael also represents Receivers, Administrators and Liquidators advising on all aspects of external administrations and is widely regarded as a genuine specialist in that space.
Admitted in 1999, Leonard practices in the area of insolvency, restructuring and commercial litigation. He acts for insolvency practitioners, creditors and debtors and has acted on some of Australia’s largest insolvencies and restructurings. Leonard has a particular interest in cross-border insolvency and is a Fellow of INSOL International. He is also a recognised specialist in the application of the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth). Prior to joining William James, Leonard worked at an international law firm and before that was a partner at a large Australian firm. Leonard is a member of the Australian Restructuring, Insolvency and Turnaround Association and Turnaround Management Association.
Anna has over 10 years of experience in dispute resolution. She specialises in security enforcement and complex disputes (particularly in relation to financial services, insolvency, fraud, consumer protection, reputation and crisis management). Anna’s experience includes acting for corporations, major organisations in the financial services industry and high net worth individuals and her focus extends to risk management advice to those clients. During her career, Anna has practiced at major Australian law firms where she successfully resolved a number of complex commercial disputes through court processes as well as alternative dispute resolution.
David has over 9 years’ experience specialising in commercial litigation and insolvency, having advised and acted for large and small clients in a wide variety of matters ranging from debt recovery to complex commercial litigation. David has a particular interest in complex insolvency and security disputes, and was the top achiever nationally in the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association’s Advanced Certification cohort of 2012.
Monika has over 8 years’ local and international experience across a broad range of complex civil and commercial disputes. Monika specialises in complex litigation, with a focus on contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, contentious insolvency and matters involving directors’ duties. Prior to joining William James, Monika worked at a leading specialist dispute resolution law firm in Hong Kong and at a large Australian national firm. Admitted to practice in both NSW and Hong Kong, Monika has extensive experience working for high profile institutional, corporate and private clients providing specialist litigation advice and successfully managing litigation proceedings and international arbitrations.
Manit has over 6 years of experience in the insolvency industry, including 2 years working with leading insolvency practitioners at a Big Four accounting firm and 4 years practicing as a commercial litigation lawyer. Her experience includes acting for insolvency practitioners and key stakeholders in corporate and personal insolvency matters, particularly litigation concerning voidable transactions and directors’ duties under the Corporations Act.
Since 2013, Michael has operated as a commercial litigation and insolvency lawyer for a number of leading litigation teams based in Sydney. His experience has included acting in high profile insolvencies and complex litigation arising from the collapse of prominent managed investment schemes, ASX listed companies and complex property developments.
Neha brings over 2 years of experience in the Assurance division at one of the “big four” global accounting firms, having worked closely with clients such as Australia’s largest banks and various commercial clients in completing financial services audits, controls assurance and compliance work. Neha started her legal career at William James over a year ago specialising in commercial litigation and corporate insolvency work. She recently graduated from the University of Technology Sydney, obtaining a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) with distinction and Bachelor of Laws with first class honours.
Natasha has been a part of William James since its inception and has 4 years of legal experience in insolvency, commercial and corporate law matters. Before joining the team Natasha worked at an international law firm where she was involved in complex insolvency matters and commercial disputes. Natasha has recently graduated from Macquarie University with honours and was admitted as a lawyer in April 2017.
Tiffany has over 3 years’ of pre-admission experience in dispute resolution, having worked in various areas of legal practice since 2013. Prior to joining William James, Tiffany worked within the commercial trade credit space, assisting listed multinationals and some of Australia’s largest insurance and construction companies in their litigation disputes across a number of Australian jurisdictions. She has recently graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications (Journalism) from the University of Technology, Sydney, and was admitted as a lawyer in October 2017.
Laura has been a part of William James since its inception and has 8 years’ experience working in the legal industry. During her career, Laura has worked in international and major Australian law firms starting as a receptionist and quickly progressing through to her current role as Practice Manager. Laura is across the business’ finances and human resources management, and is continuing to build on the business’ development initiatives.
